Country Radio Seminar Opens Today. Country radio programmers, managers, air talent and artists are converging on the Nashville Convention Center today as the three-day Country Radio Seminar 2013 opens. Now in its 44th year, the CRS will feature an opening keynote address by Emmis CEO Jeff Smulyan, songwriter and talent showcases, an address by Dixon/Davis Media Group principal David Dixon on Thursday, awards banquets, the New Faces dinner and much more.
The Conclave Names 2013 Rockwell Award Winners: Jaye Albright and Tom Kay. The Conclave Learning Conference announces country consultant Jaye Albright and Conclave executive director emeritus Tom Kay are this year’s recipients of the Rockwell Award for 2013. Executive director Bob Shannon says of this year’s honorees, “Jaye Albright represents the best broadcasting has to offer. Always a student of radio, she’s also one of our best teachers and her influence on country radio is unmatched.” Regarding Tom Kay, Shannon says, “This is recognition for a job well done. If it weren’t for Tom, the Conclave wouldn’t exist today. Giving him the Rockwell Award makes all the sense in the world. I can’t tell you how pleased I am.” On her receiving the honor, Albright states, “As I think about the past Rockwell honorees, and how much I respect what each of them has given to our business over many, many years, I remain a bit stunned that The Conclave feels that I belong among them. I’m humbled, surprised, flattered and honored.” Albright and Kay will receive the Rockwell Award and be honored during “Conclave 38: The Learning Conference” in Minneapolis July 17, 18 and 19.
CBS Radio’s 92.3 NOW New York Tweaks Air Staff. At CHR WNOW, New York, CBS Radio keeps Ty Bentli‘s “Ty Loves New York” AM drive show intact but moves Micki Gamez to the midday slot from PM drive. Zann becomes PM drive personality, Toro hosts the evening show while Eutopia holds down late nights.
Devin Steel Promoted to OM and Regional Programming Manager at Clear Channel. Hip hop WHRK, Memphis “K97.1” afternoon drive host Devin Steel is upped to operations manager for Clear Channel Media and Entertainment’s Memphis cluster. He’s also taking on the regional programming manager role that will have him overseeing the company’s stations in Jackson, Mississippi and the Laurel-Hattiesburg, Mississippi market. He will continue to host his show on “K97.1.” Regional market manager Morgan Bohannon says, “Devin is the perfect choice to lead Clear Channel Memphis’ operations. He has the knowledge, work ethic and passion to take the cluster to the next level.”
Lance Houston to Program WPOC, Baltimore. Clear Channel announces country WUBL, Atlanta “94.9 The Bull” PM drive host Lance Houston will assume the program director role at the company’s country outlet WPOC, Baltimore, effective March 11. He replaces Justin Cole. He’ll oversee the digital and on-air programming efforts for the station as well as host the station’s evening program. He will continue to produce and host the afternoon show on WUBL.
More RadioInfo Career Moves. Northern Light Broadcasting’s hot AC KTWN, Minneapolis announces its new PM drive show. Mark Rider, Ron Coomer and Lindsay Guentzel begin hosting the program on Monday, March 4. Also, Jason Nagel and Rod Simons move to the night show on Monday…..John “Jag”: Gray is named PD at Clear Channel’s adult hits KVDU, New Orleans “Voodoo 104” where he’ll also host the afternoon program. Gray most recently was on the air at CC’s CHR WKQI, Detroit…..John Lisle takes over the AM drive program at Clear Channel’s classic rock KZEP, San Antonio “K-Zep 104.5” beginning Monday, March 4. Lisle returns to the market where he worked as morning host at Cox Media’s crosstown rock KISS. As a result of his arrival, current morning host Craig “Crash” Chambers moves to the PM drive show.
Melissa Etheridge Wins Gracie Award for Syndicated Radio Show. Musician and radio program host Melissa Etheridge will take home a 2013 Gracie Award for Outstanding Talk Show in the Entertainment/Information category for her Benztown Radio Networks-produced and syndicated radio program. The 38th Annual Gracie Awards will be presented on May 21, 2013, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. Etheridge says in a statement, “I have won Grammys and an Oscar, but there is something especially meaningful about being recognized with a Gracie. I love radio, and it’s important to me to bring the voices of women to our audiences, as they share their respective truths about life, love and family — and as I share the same with them. It’s also a great pleasure to provide a forum where we can connect with each other about the music that moves us. I’m honored that people are responding to the show across the country and I thank the AWM Foundation for this award.”
